The aim of this on-site program is to provide delegates with the required skills, knowledge and confidence to enable them to use DMAIC and basic Lean Six Sigma tools to deliver business improvement across the supply chain.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the program, delegates will:
Who should attend?
DMAIC is a team based methodology. Therefore those leading or involved in day-to-day problem solving and continuous improvement should attend.
It is recommended that both project leads and key project participants attend the training. Selecting the delegates from 2-3 functional areas will enable delegates to work in meaningful groups both during the training and back at the workplace.
Pre-requisite for those attending the course
A pre-requisite for all participants at the DMAIC program is the identification of a project area that will form part of their certification. A half page outline agreed with their business sponsor should be completed a few weeks ahead of training. It is not recommended that a detailed project charter be prepared as an output of Define and Measure is precise project definition, problem, goal, scope etc. Where possible, the aim will be to use the client’s project charter to outline the Lean Six Sigma project.
The program is designed as a 5-day on-site training program completed over a 3-month period with a business project completed in parallel. This project is selected up front; Day 1 and 2 will teach Define and Measure followed by a period where delegates complete Define and Measure; Day 3, 4 and 5 are then used to teach Analyse,Improve and Control. Delegates will get opportunities to use the tools on their own projects even though some generic exercises will also be used. Each student is required to complete an individual Lean Sigma project, which using the DMAIC methodology, will realise the project goals and objectives for their company. It is critical that projects are visibly owned by the site and are actively sponsored.
A single point of contact in the business for the program is essential. Opportunities to showcase and celebrate the program success will also help promote the program.
Program Outline
Course is structured around the Six Sigma improvement methodology DMAIC. It also includes fundamental Lean tools that support DMAIC. By way of example, spaghetti maps, time value maps and process flow mapping are included as an aid to measuring the current state together with an introduction to 5S and standard work as these support Improve & Control. Short modules on team working and change management are also built into the program supported by tools that can be used to support project implementation.
It is recommended that the data analysis sections are customised to focus on the data type, continuous or attribute that is most relevant to the client. Data Charting Sigma XL software or Minitab will be used and the client will be responsible for purchasing the licences.
Program assessment is based on the successful completion of a project which demonstrates the participants’ knowledge of the course materials. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive:
