Lean Training

The Leading Edge Group enables our clients to become self-empowered and self-sufficient once they are appropriately trained and educated in the principles and techniques of Lean Healthcare. We offer the following suite of training and educational programs:

Developing Lean Champions

In order to develop the necessary skills to drive Lean culture development, pre-identified healthcare staff will need to be trained on suitable Lean implementation and transformation approaches. Based on the strategy developed, key middle management representatives will be selected to undergo relevant Lean champion training. Participants learn various Lean implementation approaches along with applications of the methodology. Training for this critical role enables participants to drive improvement efforts by understanding how to select the right people and the right Lean projects.

The training will cover the following:

  • The enterprise view of Lean
  • Lean tools overview and selection
  • Implementation approaches and business applications for Lean
  • Selecting the right people and the right projects
  • Managing and sustaining change
  • Defining a project charter
  • Monitoring projects – toll gates, maturity path reviews, and so on
  • Using metrics in the form of scorecards, dashboards, and reports that meet different levels based on the organization’s needs
  • Using Voice of the Customer (VOC) analysis to review the main requirements of internal and external customers

Developing Lean Change Agents

Healthcare organizations will require a number of Lean change agents to support Lean champions in driving and executing projects. Our Lean Healthcare Green Belt program is aimed at developing the knowledge levels and skill sets required by these change agents. The program is offered in conjunction with Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver and provides a comprehensive overview of Lean Healthcare; its associated principles, benefits, tools, and practices; and its effective implementation to achieve sustainable process improvements that benefit the organization, its employees, and customers.

Developing Wider Lean Knowledge and Awareness

Empowerment increases staff levels of ownership, commitment, and energy, thereby ensuring that improvements developed and implemented are to the satisfaction of both employees and patients, and, as a result, are more likely to be sustainable for the long term. Developing suitable levels of awareness across an organization is vital to achieving this.

The Leading Edge Group offers Lean Healthcare White and Yellow Belt training that provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the principles of Lean Thinking. As well as creating the levels of awareness and appreciation required to play an effective role in implementing Lean, this training outlines and demonstrates the essential Lean tools and practices that can be applied within organizations to decrease costs, increase efficiency, and quality of service, and improve employee and patient satisfaction.

Customized Workshops

We also provide standalone in-house workshops focused on training staff in specific Lean concepts, tools, and practices with the aim of immediate application in a target area. These workshops can help staff apply the learning to their everyday environment, show the positive results that can be achieved from such an initiative and act as a catalyst for future change. These include:

  • Lean executive training
  • Value stream mapping
  • Kaizen
  • TPM
  • 5S
  • SMED
