Introducing Lean Sigma
This eLearning module introduces the Six Sigma methodology and some of its associated tools and practices. It outlines and explains how Lean and Six Sigma can be integrated in the enterprise.

  • The module contains the following topics:
  • Introducing Six Sigma
  • Define Measure Analyze Improve and Control (DMAIC)
  • Voice of the Customer (VOC)
  • Change Acceleration Process
  • SIPOC Diagrams
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Integrating Lean and Six Sigma

The module contains case studies and real world examples that demonstrate how Six Sigma can be applied, and how Lean and Six Sigma can be integrated. In-line and final review questions and assessments are used to enable learners to track their progress and gauge how well they have assimilated the module content.

Lean Fundamentals

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:

  • Key Concepts of Lean
  • Who Uses Lean?
  • Why Use Lean?
  • General Lean Principles – 5 Lean Principles, Eliminate Waste
  • Lean Tools - Two Pillars of the Toyota Production System, JIT Systems, 5S, Visual Workplace

Hoshin Planning

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:

  • What is Hoshin Management?
  • Aligning Strategy and Operations
  • Components of Hoshin – Plan, Do, Check, Act; Five Elements of a Hoshin; Timescales
  • Setting Objectives with Hoshin Tools – Pareto, Cause and Effect diagrams; Root cause analysis; Gap analysis
  • Getting the Message out – Catchall or discussion-led objective setting; Communication
  • Lean Metrics – Overview of measurement; Identifying Lean metrics
  • Conducting a Review

Value Stream Mapping

This six and a half hour-module consists of the following topics:

  • An Overview – VSM: An overview; VSM: An example
  • Getting Started – Resources required; Product families; Selecting a product to value stream map
  • Mapping Your Current State – What is a current state map? Create a current state map
  • Successful Future State – What is a future sate map? Create a future state map

Visual Control

This one and a half-hour module is intended for managers, operators, technicians, engineers, and trainers. It will enable learners to:

  • Understand visual control as a method whereby a work area becomes self-explaining, self-regulating, and continuously improving
  • Describe the use of visual methods for object and facility control, including safety controls.
  • Explain the use of schedule boards, problem reporting, work load plans, and ahead and behind charts
  • Show the purpose and use of quality alert sheets, in-process inspection standards, inspection results, SPC charts, and the role of quality awards vs. quality control charts
  • Explain the use VC for maintenance, shadow boards and color coding, signals for equipment status, and equipment monitoring
  • Describe the role of the team in managing team production activities

Kaizen

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:

  • Moving to the Future – Check, revise, and update

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:

  • Balancing Work
  • Standardizing Work

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:
What is 5S?

  • S5 – Sustain; Toolkit

This two-hour module consists of the following topics:
